Comedienne and activist Roseanne Barr isn't joking this time. She's seeking to occupy the White House in 2013 on the Green Party ticket with an emphasis on the "occupy." Barr's been a big supporter of the Occupy movement, having appeared on
Russia Today in October, fresh from the streets, to back up her opinion that "if corporations are people, then Goldman Sachs needs to be executed for premeditated mass murder."
CNN's Gabriella Schwarz reports:
Scott McLarty, national media coordinator for the [Green] party, said Barr and Jill Stein, the other candidate that met the qualifications, are committed to ending the influence of corporate money on politics and elections and served as active participants in the Occupy Wall Street movement.
Putting a feminist spin on her bid for the Oval Office, the
LA Times reports that Barr had this to say:
"I'm tired of watching as men destroy the world," said Barr on her blog. "Everything used to be beautiful when women were in charge, and now I, working as the physical manifestation of the goddess Isis and the reincarnation of Cleopatra, have decided to save the world."

Every morning, Brittany Geldert stepped off the bus and bolted through the double doors of Fred Moore Middle School, her nerves already on high alert, bracing for the inevitable.
"Dyke."
Pretending not to hear, Brittany would walk briskly to her locker, past the sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders who loitered in menacing packs.
"Whore."
Like many 13-year-olds, Brittany knew seventh grade was a living hell. But what she didn't know was that she was caught in the crossfire of a culture war being waged by local evangelicals inspired by their high-profile congressional representative Michele Bachmann, who graduated from Anoka High School and, until recently, was a member of one of the most conservative churches in the area. When Christian activists who considered gays an abomination forced a measure through the school board forbidding the discussion of homosexuality in the district's public schools, kids like Brittany were unknowingly thrust into the heart of a clash that was about to become intertwined with tragedy.

Veteran radio host Rush Limbaugh is upset with presidential hopeful Mitt Romney's remarks about the very poor, their safety net, and the GOP contender's lack of concern for the former due to the latter. But not for the typical reason. The
Huffington Post reports:
Limbaugh made it clear that, to him, the line was another big misstep for the former Massachusetts governor. He said that Romney should not have actually been defending the "safety net," because any social welfare programs are destructive.
As the controversial but popular icon of AM radio puts it,
The safety net is one of the biggest cultural problems we've got!"
Nor was he happy with Romney's attempt to make amends for his gaffe by supporting an increase in the minimum wage, according to
Mediate's James Crugnale. For Limbaugh, it only cast further doubt on Romney's conservative credibility.
What do you think? Is Rush right to question the safety net itself, or is Mitt the sensible one here?

President Obama emphasized his Christian beliefs at this year's annual National Prayer Breakfast in. D.C. reports Laura MacInnis at Reuters. Citing his faith as his motivation for his support for higher taxes on the wealthy, Obama had this to say:
"But for me as a Christian, it also coincides with Jesus' teaching that 'for unto whom much is given, much shall be required,'"
But conservatives are crying foul. As David Nakamura and Michelle Boorstein of the
Washington Post tell us,
Ralph Reed of the Faith and Freedom Coalition said that for the president to tie his tax policy to Jesus's teachings "is theologically threadbare and straining credulity."
Former GOP presidential contender Rick Perry has criticized the president for his "war on religion." Then again, it wasn't long ago that Obama was being called out by groups like Americans United for Separation of Church and State for referencing God more often than his predecessor, George W. Bush.
What do you think? Is Obama right to bring God into election year, should he keep faith out of it? Or is he even sincere?
